RISK - The likelihood, great or small, that someone will be harmed by the hazard, together with the severity of the harm suffered.
A Risk Assessment is quite simply a careful examination of what, in your work, task or workplace, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken enough precautions or should do more to prevent harm.
The aim of carrying out a Risk Assessment is to make sure that no one gets injured or becomes ill. Accidents and illness ruin lives, and can ultimately affect your business if productivity is lost, machinery damaged, insurance costs increase or you find yourself in court.
Risk will depend on many, often connected circumstances:
| AREA/ITEM | HAZARD | CODE | PREVENTION | RESPONSIBILITY |
| Offices | VDU (Eye Damage) | L | Observe VDU Guidelines | All Staff |
| Wires | L | Ensure Router Correctly / Safely | ||
